SoFoBoMo: today’s contact sheet
Today I went out with a fellow photographer and we managed to catch some great light and have a great hike in the great outdoors. Too bad I didn’t take any great photos. I did manage to invent some fun new curse words for the coolpix. I took three cameras with me and I have a new rule. One camera, one lens, one film type per hike. Not that I’m going to follow that rule, not in the least.
Also, I’d like to note that I haven’t actually processed or looked at anything I’ve taken after about day 4 or so. So I’m getting behind in the processing of the images.
Contact sheet, as usual, after the jump.

I was cursing my new SLR the other day and wishing I had brought my Coolpix with me. Can you believe that the fastest shutter speed I can use with the flash on my SLR is 1/180 sec? That is complete and total bullshit! When I use the flash it generally means I want to take a fast picture. 1/180 sec is too slow for most insect action shots or flowers in a raging wind. What’s the point of manual settings if you can’t actually use the settings you want? My old Coolpix can take flash pictures at 1/2000 sec. You’d think an SLR would be a step up from a point-and-shoot. Apparently not in this case. If only they would release an improved Coolpix 4500 (the other numbers suck), I’d probably buy at least two.

Don’t you remember that that was one of the reasons I bought the external flash? Its the shutters fault. with no shutter you can use the flash at any speed you like, as with the coolpix. when you add the shutter you suddenly have this thing moving across the sensor which means if the flash goes off with the sensor partially covered you get a lovely dark spot. anyway at faster speeds the sensor is never entirely exposed at any point. add the external flash though and you can get 1/4000. marketing scheme? I wouldnt be shocked.

One more damn thing to carry around. I think I need a photographic and botanical equipment porter.
