Claims I fear are true

Driving is now better for the planet than walking:

Food production is now so energy-intensive that more carbon is emitted providing a person with enough calories to walk to the shops than a car would emit over the same distance.

What will they think of next? Driving is bad for the environment, now it’s good. Trees are good, unless they aren’t. Outdoor air in big cities is bad compared to indoor air, unless you work in an office (it’s the micro-particles from all the laser printers). I’m starting to give up on keeping up with the latest saving the planet news, which is causing me to feel that nothing I do is going to matter in the long run anyway. In any case, I’m not abandoning my walks to the library.

In a similar vein: for some crops, it’s less costly (from an environmental standpoint) to eat vegetables shipped in from Peru than trucked in from local farms. I still say buy local! The food tastes so much better, you’re supporting the community and screw the teeny difference in emmissions.
