Traipsing the Tar Pits

Whoa, had a great weekend. We visited Tiphaine up in LA and went touring around town. We went to the La Brea Tar Pits and satisfied our tar pit curiosity. They had a really cool display with a saber tooth cat (not tiger, dearie) skeleton and then as you watched a hologram of the animal appeared over the skeleton. Scary! There were a lot of kids there and sometimes they were afraid of the big roaring displays. It was too cute. We had planned on eating someplace fun and distinctive because we all like eating out at new places but by the time we were done with the Tar Pit museum we were so hungry that we just ate at Baja Fresh–which is a California favorite of Tiph’s and who knows when she’ll be able to have it again. We ordered our lunch and sat outside in the everything-is-perfect-here weather which comes with sunny skies, warm temps and a side of cool breeze. After lunch we drove up Rodeo Drive and got totally disgusted with the extravagance of the shops. Tiph wanted to go to Target where she could actually afford some of the stuff and Devin declared that his idea of fancy is JC Penny’s. We drove through some of the residential streets and stopped at a garage sale outside an apartment building where they were selling Armani clothes and a bunch of other junk and we also went to an estate sale. Tiph had never been to an estate sale and it was fun to look around but the stuff was so expensive! Lots of old dishes and furniture. I guess I should say “antique” because it’s old and fancy. The big big thing we did was drive up in the hills and checked out impossibly expensive houses precariously perched over the hill on one side with a little twisty road right up next to the front door on the other. Some of the houses had gates and a lot of them had video cameras. There were a couple times when we were followed by black SUV’s…Friendly neighborhood. I don’t know how so many people can afford those houses! Where does all the money come from?!?

Yup. It was pretty crazy. I miss Tiphaine and wonder when I’ll get to see her again.
